Short description Morphology | Morphometrics

Dorsal soft rays (total): 86-88; Anal soft rays: 53 - 57; Vertebrae: 53 - 54. This species is distinguished from its congeners by the following set of characters: frontal plate have a pair of small, hidden, sub-dermal spines above and behind eyes; with a small, median, sub-dermal, ethmoidal spine in front of eyes; opercular spine hidden by skin, no preopercular spine; pectoral peduncle is prolonged; anterior gill arch with 3 developed rakers, 1.5-2 times length of gill filaments; palatines with 1tooth row, fang-like teeth on all dentigerous bones; vertebrae, precaudal 13-14 and total 53-54; fin rays, Dl 86-88, A 53-57 and pectoral 18-19; otolith length to height, 2.1, otolith length to colliculum length, 2.8 (Ref. 93007).
