Remarks 'grenadero', i.e., a spiny tree with red flowers producing the grenade fruit (thick skinned, several celled reddish berry) from Middle French 'pomegrenate' from Latin 'granata', 'granatus', i.e., seedy, from 'granum', i.e., grain (Ref. 27888). Name not listed in ASFIS version 2006 (Ref. 56807).
